about vargasvargas

I’m Katja Paulina, the founder of vargasvargas.
I started working with clay in 2017 in a small studio in Hamburg. With a background in film and television, I approach ceramics as a form of storytelling. I work both on the pottery wheel and with the hand-building technique in my home studio in Berlin.
Each piece I create is handcrafted and unique, reflecting my personal taste and aesthetic principles. A poem to the imperfect.
vargasvargas is also an advocate for conscious consumption. I believe in choosing objects that are aesthetically pleasing and built to last. Ultimately, even stoneware remains fragile. In this ambiguity lies its essence. And if a piece breaks, I like to think of it as a gentle reminder of life’s delicate beauty.
The name vargasvargas stems from my family name from the colombian part of my family. It represents not only part of my cultural heritage but also a place of traditional craftsmanship, of longing and of magic realism.
